Our Wines: Specialty
Our family has farmed in the Okanagan Valley since 1908. We believe great wines begin in the vineyards and we are deeply passionate about the quality of our wines.
For over 25 years Quails’ Gate has grown the Optima grape in a vineyard block close to the lake. We use it to makes a wonderfully unique sweet dessert style wine, full of honeyed fruit flavors. The 2015 Optima has intense aromas of spring blossoms, poached pears, quince and ripe apricot. The waxy palate is rich and complex with notes of honey and tropical fruit flavors that include guava and mango. The wine is beautifully balanced with vibrant citrus orange acidity and a long lingering finish. We recommend pairing this wine with summer fruit based desserts, blue veined cheeses and rich pates and foie gras.
Our 2014 Icewine has intense aromas of ripe mango and pineapple with hints of quince and orange. On the palate, the wine is lusciously sweet yet perfectly offset by mouth-watering citrus orange acidity on a long and lingering finish. Serve well chilled with tarte tatin, crème brülée and thoroughly recommended with local blue cheeses.
Aromas of caramel, coffee and tobacco entice you while rich flavours with hints of chocolate, prunes and blackberries speak to the complexity of this wine. It is excellent with strong cheeses, nuts or dried fruit. Try with rich creamy desserts. The style also lends itself to being enjoyed on its own.
Dark and intensely colored, the 2014 vintage opens with a complex array of dark mulled fruits, baking spices and chocolate covered raisins. The palate has a rich, sweet mouth-feel with ripe black cherry and kirsch on a long succulent finish. We recommend pairing with chocolate truffles, figs and ginger nut cake. Blue cheese would also be a delightful match.
