2011 Gewürztraminer

Auszeichnungen

89 Punkte – Beppi Crosario (April 2012)
Medium-bodied and dry, this one starts with a suggestively sweet, fruity core of lychee and white table grape, followed by a rose-petal fragrance that builds through the delectable finish. A good choice for pâté de foie gras.

89 Punkte – John Schreiner (Mai 2012)
This is an attractively understated Gewurz, with delicate aromas of rose petals, spice and citrus; and with flavours of grapefruit and lychee. The wine has just enough residual sugar (10 grams) to plump up the fruitiness without taking away from crisp finish.

88 Punkte – Tom Firth (Juli 2012)
This has pretty lychee and floral aromas on the nose, with rose petal, Ingwer, honey and melon. Tropical fruit flavours of pineapple, honeydew and banana dominate the palate in this perfect summer afternoon wine.

“Wachteln’ Gate makes a delightful Gewurztraminer every year, loaded with ripe honey dew, lychee fruit and sweet orange blossom aromas with light mineral and spicy notes. The palate is oily, chewy and off-dry, typical for the Alsatian variety. What makes the 2011 memorable is the rich fruit flavours are balanced with a higher level of acidity from the cooler, late harvest vintage. Enjoy this wine in its youth. The lingering citrus and spice flavours with pair nicely with a tangy spinach salad with walnuts, beets and goat’s cheese.Â
