Succulent, juicy and savoury with aromas and flavours of plush ripe black plums. More interesting than most merlots I’ve tasted. One of Canada’s best wine producers. Food matches: Angus bavette steak with potato and cheddar gratin and heirloom carrots with roasted shallot vinaigrette

This shows classic, lovely ripe raspberry fruit with herbs and tea framed in lightly smoky, toasty oak. It’s medium-full bodied, smooth and svelte. There is some heat on the finish and green tannin as well, but the fruit delivers right through for excellent length”.

This is a powerhouse, beginning aromas of berries, spice and vanilla and with flavours of blueberry, black currant and blackberry. As the wine breathes, its fleshy texture emerges and that texture seems to be why Zinfandel-like alcohol is not apparent.

88 puntos – Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson
Cocoa, plum, cassis, blueberry jam, vanilla and white pepper notes hint at the balance between ripeness and oak aging in this merlot. It’s a dry, medium-plus bodied red that delivers cocoa/espresso, plum, blueberry skin and white pepper flavours wrapped in lean, grippy tannins. A hint of black tea and white pepper come through on the lingering, slightly hot finish.

Similar on the nose to last year with cool, floral cedar-y, black cherry aromas with a dusting of dried herbs. The entry is supple and this year the softness extends through the finish. On the palate the wine offers up a spicy, tart, red fruit characters with bits of tobacco and dried cranberries in the finish. All in all a lean northwest merlot that is best served with grilled meats.
