Wine Style

Excepcionalmente raro, Old Vines Foch nossa Reserva é considerado um vinho de culto por muitos. É o nosso vinho mais gutsy. Made in the style of Australian Shiraz, this wine is robust and jammy with lots of aromatics. Named for the French World War I hero, General Ferdinand Foch, Marechal Foch grapes produce an intense and full bodied red wine. Produced in limited quantities from one of our oldest plantings, this wine will benefit from aging up to 8 anos.

Tasting & Pairing

Uniquely Quails’ Gate, this cult classic is a single vineyard small lot wine. This flavorsome wine boasts dark berry fruit, mingling with chocolate mocha and spicy, smoky toasty oak, complimenting the overall gamey nature while soft plush, sweet ripe tannins linger in the background. The palate is full with a rich sweet and sour attack and long powerful finish. This wine pairs well with Angus beef ribeye, cauliflower puree, new potatoes, buttered broccoli, and Marchand de Vins butter. Enjoy until 2017.

Winemaking

Harvested in October 2009, our Old Vines Foch Reserve is made with fruit handpicked from 44 year old vines planted at Quails’ Gate Estate Vineyard by Richard Stewart Jr. A French hybrid with very small compact berries, it combines Old and New World wine styles with bright acidity, intense dark fruit and complex earthy notes. It is fermented with vigorous French yeast strains and barrel aged for 18 months in new, 100% American Oak barrels.
