As autumn starts to settle in, the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) has launched a heartwarming fundraiser that blends community spirit with local flavours. Join the community in supporting the Central Okanagan Food Bank’s 4th annual “Bake the World a Better Place“. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of this impactful occasion:

1. A Chance to Give Back and Enjoy

Bake the World a Better Place offers a dual benefit, you get to enjoy a delectable pie while supporting a crucial cause. This is the first year Quails’ Gate Winery will be hosting the “pie pickup” in West Kelowna. When picking up your pie on either October 10 or 11, we invite you to join us for a complimentary wine tasting with proof of pie purchase. Bring the whole family and head over to The Market to enjoy lunch, pick up some local cheeses & snacks for your Thanksgiving Dinner and explore the estate.

2. Highlighting Local Talents

Along with many renowned contributors this year, we are proud to have Pastry Sous Chef Elizabeth Boyle from Old Vines Restaurant serving up her gluten-free apple pie. Elizabeth is known for her commitment to using local ingredients, and this year’s pie is no exception. Her creation aims to spotlight the Apple Fest initiative, which supports local farmers affected by the recent closure of BC Tree Fruits. Elizabeth’s dedication to pastry arts and her passion for local produce are evident in every bite of her pie.

3. A Sweet Way to Support a Local Cause

This year’s fundraiser will feature an array of amazing pies crafted by some of our region’s most talented local chefs. But this isn’t just about enjoying a slice of pie; it’s about making a meaningful contribution to the community. By purchasing these pies, you’re not only indulging in a tasty treat but also supporting the COFB, which is currently serving approximately 11,000 individuals per month – nearly double the amount from last year. Your purchase will directly help in feeding hope to those in need across Kelowna and West Kelowna.

4. Limited Edition Pies

Whether you’re planning for a special occasion like Thanksgiving or simply looking to enjoy a delicious dessert, this is the perfect opportunity to savour something extraordinary while making a positive impact. With only a limited number of pies available, you’ll want to make sure you place your order soon! These one-of-a-kind pies, created by local culinary talents, are sure to go fast and the last day to purchase is September 30.

The COFB is immensely grateful for the ongoing support from the community. Every pie purchased not only supports local chefs but also contributes to a broader effort of alleviating hunger and fostering compassion. So, mark your calendar and purchase a pie that does more than just taste great. Together, we can bake the world a better place!
