Quails’ Gate Winery Restaurant among World’s Best

October 23, 2013 (Vancouver, BC) – Quails’ Gate has become an Okanagan Valley icon because of its premium wines, and now the winery’s restaurant.   A panel of international experts has voted Old Vines Restaurant & Wine Bar onto’s 20 Best Winery Restaurants Around the World list.

The recognition from, which is devoted to reporting on food and wine culture, is the latest accolade for the winery restaurant.  In the past Old Vines has received gold (2011) and silver (2012 and 2013) medals in the Vancouver Magazine’s Best Winery/Vineyard Dining category.

How did the voting take place? The publication compared and evaluated winery restaurants from 67 of the world’s wine-producing countries when preparing its list.  One hundred experts, including food and wine writers, wine experts, sommeliers, bloggers, and Daily Meal staff, voted for their favourites in the categories Cuisine, Wine, Winery Experience, and Style/Décor/Service.  Much of the other winery restaurants that placed in the Top 20 were from the world’s premier wine-producing regions, such as California’s Napa Valley, Spain’s Rioja, Mendoza, Argentina and Tuscany in Italy. Quails’ Gate Winery was the only Canadian winery to receive recognition in this competition, placing 17th overall.

The Stewart family, who own and operate the restaurant and winery, have shown that the quality of the wine they make is a direct reflection of the terroir of the Okanagan Valley.  This same approach in regional authenticity, guides every decision in the kitchen of Old Vines and is transforming and defining Okanagan cuisine as world-class.  Chef Roger Sleiman sources ingredients from the restaurant’s own on-site garden as well as local farms and fields – flavours that are a perfect match for Quails’ Gate’s estate-grown wines.

The restaurant is open year-round, allowing guests to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the vineyards, Okanagan Lake and slopes of Mt. Boucherie.  Old Vines was one of the first winery restaurants to open in the Okanagan, and is still the gold standard for food and wine lovers.

Many thanks to Matt Steves who nominated Quails’ Gate TBA Optima as Canada’s best cheese pairing wine!

Click here to watch Natalie MacLean showcasing the winning wines on Canada AM on CTV which aired June 27th.

Natalie wrote to us letting us know that the competition was tough…

“There were hundreds of people voting right up until midnight in the wine pairing competition.  The results were based on the final votes, which came in strong and steadily until the last minute. Your wine did very well and had tremendous support among the 40 wines originally nominated in the cheese pairing category. Matt Steves was a great champion for you.”

We’d like to say thank you to all our wonderful fans who voted and held the torch up for our beloved Sauternes style beauty!

2010 Stewart Family Reserve Chardonnay has been awarded a Gold Medal at Chardonnay du Monde 2013, one of the most prestigious Chardonnay competitions in the world.

New Releases: 2011 Stewart Family Reserves

Our King and Queen, 2011 Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir and 2011 Stewart Family Reserve Chardonnay have been released. Come visit Quails’ Gate Winery and try our new releases!

2011 Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes:
On first impression, the fragrance of this supple, silken-textured Pinot Noir is dominated by intensely bright, ripe, red fruits. As the wine unfolds, musky floral aromas evoke images of dark, velvety, blood-red roses. Firm but very fine tannins allow the wine to showcase gorgeous primary fruit with subtle layers of spice and truffle. Pair this wine with butter herb crusted chicken, roasted lamb, savory slow cooked game, or side dishes with an earthy or nutty character.

2011 Stewart Family Reserve Chardonnay
Tasting Notes:
The 2011 Stewart Family Reserve Chardonnay opens with inviting aromas of white peach and orange blossoms mingling with underlying notes of clover honey and brioche. A subtle hint of spicy French oak contributes to the richness and complexity of this elegantly textured, well-balanced wine. Try pairing it with grilled honey orange chicken salad or poached salmon with a caper butter sauce.
